Sacred feminine or why Dan Brown is right

It has been quite a productive week this one. Having done a part sermon at church and then a talk on the davinci code. There was an interesting connection between the two talks. I spoke on the sermon about God the Father.

In talking about God the Father, I tried to make the point that God’s fatherhood was not connected to gender. As God is wholly other to apply our human characteristic onto God is foolish at best and idolatry at worst. God is primarily the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ. To then take our views of Father and apply them to God is just silly.

Dan Brown in his book stated the need of the sacred feminine to balance Christianity insistence on a sacred masculine. This I thought was wrong. But it turns out Mr. Brown is correct. For when I suggested that God was gender neutral I had no idea how negative that idea would be. I got comments like ‘the bible uses him for God’. God is therefore clearly male.


ARGGGHHHHHH!


When I tried to explain why this could not be the case I was accused of being too academic.

I just have no idea how to discuss this with these guys. Any attempt to argue about it was discredited because I was too educated!?!
