Roughly stated: God's wrath is how God's person is manifested to those who have rejected him. He gives them over to their sin so that they become fully immersed in it, sin becomes full-grown and it gives birth to death and so on. God's wrath would then be nothing less than his fully and absolutely giving humanity over to their own self-destruction.
In becoming fully human Christ then also comes under this wrath, but is able to take it all on himself and exhaust its power and raise humanity from out of death, sin and wrath.
